The file just never gives me the option of entering it. I have the zip file, I double-click on it, it gives me an error message. I right-click on it but no options there either. How do I open it such that it gives me a chance to unlock it?

Appreciate the help. (and yeah, I have no idea if I'm in the right community - sorry about that if I'm in the wrong place)

ZIP is an archive file format supporting lossless data. Nowadays, zip files are widely-used in many cases such as software downloads, email attachments. Here is a guide on how to create zip file and password protect zip file mac in the easiest way.

Part I. Why Create Zip Files?

A zip archive may contain one or more files and archives may span multiple files. Using zip files can give us many advantages on many occasions as follows.

  • By compressing your large data files into a zip regularly will help save the storage space of your Mac greatly.
  • Distribute files in zipped is a good way to save server’s bandwidth usage and help download the file in smaller size and faster speed.
  • Instead sending an email with multiple attachment files, a single compressed file will help reduce email size and transmission time.

Note: Since JPEG files use a “lossy” form of compression, it is not recommended to make JEPG files into zip files. The more you compress the JPEG, the more quality you loose. Further more if you try to ZIP a heavily compressed JPEG it can actually grow in size!
